Wisconsin Garden and Landscaping Tips

Enjoy the outdoors more from your own backyard this summer!

How can you spruce up your outdoor area without breaking the bank? Adding in a brightly colored flower garden can create a relaxing and beautiful space for you to enjoy nature close to home.

However, before you begin the planting process, do your research! Make sure that the plants you’ve chosen are well suited to the climate and area that you’re planting them in. This will ensure that they thrive for the months to come. For example, if your backyard or outdoor area doesn’t get much sunshine, you would pick plants that do well with limited hours of sun throughout the day.

Make your own compost

To keep your plants healthy, it’s important to have a soil rich in nutrients. How can you enhance your soil? You can create your own compost easily out of items that you should be able to find outdoors and around the house. This can enhance the fertility and consistency of the existing soil.

What should a decent compost include? A good compost should have both carbon and nitrogen sources. Carbon sources include dead leaves, conifer needles, sawdust, straw and wood ash, and nitrogen sources include fruit and vegetable kitchen scraps, freshly cut grass, eggshells and seaweed.

Plant complimenting colors next to each other

Planting flowers next to each other that are flattering is key to a beautiful garden this year. Reds, oranges and yellows all look great together, as do different shades of purple and blue.

Add a bench or table to your outdoor area

Adding in a bench to your garden area not only looks nice, but it’s the perfect spot to relax solo, with your significant other or with a friend this summer. Alternatively consider adding in a picnic table, so not only can you and others can enjoy the beautiful view of your garden, but a snack or lunch out in nature.

Add in a stone walkway

What’s the point of having a beautiful garden if you can’t enjoy it? Adding in a stone walkway to your outdoor space is a nice touch, and makes it easier to walk around the area. Depending on your budget and preference, there are a number of different stone pathway options to browse online and get a better idea of exactly what you’re looking for.
